For Primary 3 students (typically 9 years old). Children meeting the P3 jump — tenses, longer comprehension passages and their first proper compositions arriving together.
MOE syllabus alignment
Fully aligned to the MOE Primary 3 English Language syllabus (STELLAR-based). Reading and comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, writing and oral communication are taught to MOE expectations and exam formats, so the work supports school assessments directly.
What we cover at Primary 3
- Tenses: present, past and present continuous, and choosing the right one in a passage
- Subject-verb agreement and common P3 grammar errors in context
- Sentence structure: simple and compound sentences, correcting run-ons and fragments
- Vocabulary building: synonyms, antonyms, word families and using a dictionary
- Punctuation: commas in lists, question marks, exclamation marks, direct speech
- Comprehension: literal answers plus first inferential questions ('why do you think…')
- Paragraph writing: topic sentence, supporting detail, closing sentence
- Short composition from a 4-picture sequence with planned setting, problem and solution
- Oral: reading passage fluency and picture-based conversation with reasons

Your child's Primary 3 English class is taught by a current or ex-MOE teacher who has taught this level in a Singapore school. We do not publish teacher names or photos — a deliberate policy we explain in full on our teachers page.

Assess
P3 is the first real jump. We test tenses, comprehension and composition separately rather than by one overall grade.

We separate 'did not understand the passage' from 'understood it but answered badly' — different fixes entirely.

Target
If the gap is grammar, we teach the rule inside sentences your child will use. If it is technique, we drill answering.

Practise
Paragraph writing with a fixed structure, plus inferential questions built up from literal ones.

Review
Marked work returns with two specific fixes to carry into the next piece — never a long correction list.

From 21 Nov, lessons shift to School Year Prep for the next level (P1 prepares for P2, P6 prepares for Secondary 1, and so on) — same class, same slot, no separate signup.

Common FAQ
Marks dropped from P2 to P3. Is that normal?
Very common. P3 adds inferential comprehension and proper composition at the same time as harder grammar. It is usually recoverable within a term.
My child answers comprehension 'correctly' but loses marks.
That is an answering-technique gap. We teach lifting keywords from the question and answering in full, complete sentences.
What is an inferential question?
A question whose answer is not written in the passage — your child must work it out from clues. We build these up from literal questions first.
How many children are in one class?
Five. Primary 3 classes are capped at 5 students so the teacher can speak to your child by name in every session. We only stretch to 7 when a student joins for a make-up lesson.
