Primary 2 English Tuition — Live Online, Groups of 5
For Primary 2 students (typically 8 years old). Children who read fine but write in very short sentences, mix up past and present tense, or freeze during show-and-tell.
MOE syllabus alignment
Fully aligned to the MOE Primary 2 English Language syllabus (STELLAR-based). Reading and comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, writing and oral communication are taught to MOE expectations and exam formats, so the work supports school assessments directly.
What we cover at Primary 2
- Phonics extension: long vowels, magic e, vowel teams and common word families
- Sight words and spelling patterns to Dolch level 2, plus everyday topic vocabulary
- Sentence construction with adjectives and prepositions to add detail
- Simple present and simple past tense, including common irregular verbs (go/went, eat/ate)
- Conjunctions and, but, because and so to join two ideas
- Comprehension: sequencing events and answering literal questions in full sentences
- Simple composition: a 4-picture sequence written as a beginning, middle and end
- Oral: reading aloud with expression and stimulus-based conversation

Your child's Primary 2 English class is taught by a current or ex-MOE teacher who has taught this level in a Singapore school. We do not publish teacher names or photos — a deliberate policy we explain in full on our teachers page.

We check long-vowel decoding, spelling patterns, and whether tense is used or avoided in writing.

Very short writing at P2 is nearly always missing connectives and adjectives, not missing ideas.

Practise
Picture-sequence talking before writing, so the story is spoken aloud before it is put on paper.

From 21 Nov, lessons shift to School Year Prep for the next level (P1 prepares for P2, P6 prepares for Secondary 1, and so on) — same class, same slot, no separate signup.

Common FAQ
My child mixes up past and present tense constantly.
Normal at P2. We drill the common irregular verbs first, since those cause most of the errors, then work on tense consistency in whole pieces.
Writing is only three short sentences. How do we fix it?
By teaching connectives and adjectives as tools, and by having your child say the story out loud before writing it.
How much homework is set?
Short and targeted — usually 20–30 minutes a week aimed at the diagnosed gap, not volume for its own sake.
How many children are in one class?
Five. Primary 2 classes are capped at 5 students so the teacher can speak to your child by name in every session. We only stretch to 7 when a student joins for a make-up lesson.
